Gabriel Iglasias is a stand-up comedian and actor from the United States of America, and he is one of the most popular names in the world of American stand-up comedy. He has also acted as the producer of several special comedy specials for different television channels like Comedy Central as well as Netflix. One of his most popular works is I’m Not Fat…I’m Fluffy, as well as Hot & Fluffy. He has also acted in several films, particularly those which consisted of animated and action movies.
Early Life and Childhood
Gabriel Iglesias, whose full name is Gabriel Jesús Iglesias, was born on 15th of July, 1976. His mother’s name is Esther P. Mendez and his father’s name is Jesús Iglesias. He was raised single-handedly by his mother Esther, and he is of Mexican heritage. He was born in San Diego, California, but was raised in Riverside, Corona, Santa Ana, Baldwin Park and Crompton. Afterwards, he settled in a Section-8 low income housing situated in Long Beach, and Gabriel Iglasias spent most of his youth over here.
Career
Before he became a part of the stand-up comedy scene, Gabriel Iglasias used to work at a mobile phone company in Los Angeles. He started acting as a stand up comedian from the year 1997, and he made it his full time job. However, it was not easy for him to gain fame right from the beginning, and his pursuit of fame in the comedy scene made him lose his car and also get evicted from his house.
Gabriel Iglasias has done many popular comedy shows and so far, one of his most famous shows has been I’m Not Fat…I’m Fluffy. There, he stated that there are five levels of being fat – “Big”, “Healthy”, “Husky”, “Fluffy”, and “DAMN!!!”. In a 2009 episode, he added another category, which was “Oh hell, no.”.
Apart from being a super popular standup comedian, he has also had some super popular ventures in the acting department. In 2007, Gabriel Iglasias did the voice for an entire Mexican family in the show Family Guy, for the episode Padre de Familia in the sixth season of the show.
In 2018, Gabriel Iglasias was ranked as one of the top most paid comedians in the world. In 2022, he became the first comedian to have a sold out show at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The show was also released on Netflix as Stadium Fluffy.
Personal Life
In The Fluffy Movie, Gabriel Iglasias revealed that when he was at his heaviest, he weighed 202 kilos, and was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, and his blood sugar spiked at 300 mg/dl daily. His doctor told him that he had only two years to live. This realization made him re-evaluate his life and made him start to take serious care of himself. While he struggled to maintain a healthy lifestyle, he had a strong mindset that helped him achieve his goal weight.
Since 2010, he has been living in Whittier, California. He was in a relationship with Claudia Valdez and with her she has a stepson named Frankie. Though the former couple broke up, he maintains a friendly relationship with Claudia and helps raise Frankie.
