Blackpool 4-3 Bolton – 1953

To get things off, we’ve chosen this seven-goal thriller from 1953, which has since been dubbed the “Matthews Final” because of Stanley Matthews’ heroics at Wembley, when he inspired Blackpool to victory and their lone FA Cup title. In one of the greatest FA Cup finals, Stan Mortensen scored a hat-trick for the Seasiders, but it is Matthews’ wing wizardry at the age of 38 that is remembered most fondly as he helped rescue his team from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 in spectacular manner.

Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United – 1979

It’s impossible to top the ‘Five Minute Final’ between Arsenal and Manchester United in 1979 when it comes to the most exciting FA Cup final finales. A 2-0 win for the Gunners was all but certain until United’s Gordon McQueen and Sammy McIlroy scored in the last five minutes to force extra time. Alan Sunderland scored the most dramatic of FA Cup victories for Arsenal with only one minute remaining on the clock thanks to Graham Rix’s looping cross to the far post.

Spurs 3-2 Manchester City – 1981

Next up on the list is an FA Cup final replay from 1981. Wembley hosted the rematch of the 100th FA Cup final, which finished in a 1-1 tie between Tottenham and Manchester City. Ricky Villa was the only one who could ensure victory this time around. Spurs were ahead thanks to the Argentine’s goal, but City quickly came back to take a 2-1 lead. Crooks leveled for north London before Villa began on one of the greatest FA Cup runs in history. After picking up the ball outside the penalty area, Villa sprinted into the box and waltzed past the City defense before putting the ball into the back of the net to give Spurs the trophy.
